iCloud / Apple Photos:
- Automatic backup from my phone.
- Paying for 2TB of iCloud storage for myself and shared with family .
- Stores files in a photos library. No file system management.
- Handy for sync and sharing, but not our final destination for lifetime backup.
Synology C2 Cloud Storage Backup
- Paying for 1TB of C2 for NAS backup.
- Files on the NAS will be backed up here automatically.
- This is a redundant backup (not sync) that can be used as a restore in case the NAS dies.
- Using HyperBackup app in DSM.
Database Files
- Digikam database is stored on the C Drive.
- Lightroom Catalogues are stored on the C Drive.
- C Drive is solid state nvme drive. Fast write speed is better for databases.
Publish to NAS
- Publishes JPGs from Lightroom Classic on my desktop to the NAS.
- Uses the Jeff Freidl plugin to maintain the folder structure in the export location.
- Use a smart collection that looks for a special "Publish to NAS" tag.
Google Photos
- Automatic backup from my phone.
- Anna paying for 2TB of Google One.
- Used for sharing with Anna and family.
- Extremely useful for facial recognition and ai search.
- Not our final destination for lifetime backup.
Synology Photos
- Automatic backup from my phone.
- Not accessed as frequently.
- Used as the lifetime backup for all images and videos from my mobiles devices.
- Photos may eventually be deleted from Google or Apple to clear space, but will always be available here.
- Hosted locally on my NAS.
Sync to Lightroom
- All camera images and video files are imported to lightroom.
- Sometimes via the Lightroom Mobile app on my iPad, and other times via Lightroom Classic on my desktop.
File Transfer
- These files are simply transferred to a folder on my Windows desktop.
Synology Photos
- ✅Photos that are re-published from Lightroom are not removed from albums.
- Raw/NEF files are hidden.
- Only Jpegs synced from lightroom.
